  Dental Care Clinic

We advise routine dental checks every three months. Our veterinary nurses are able to demonstrate many aspects of preventative dental care for your pet free of charge, including tooth brushing, enzymatic toothpastes, supplements, dental foods, dental chews and toys.

They are also able to formulate a dental care plan for you to prevent your pet suffering from dental disease, and this can reduce the need for expensive dental treatment and an anaesthetic later on in your pet's life, and painful teeth and gums.

Dental disease in pets is one of the most commonly diagnosed conditions. Bad breath is not normal in pets, and the most common reason is dental disease. The presence of plaque and tartar on the teeth can cause your pets teeth to decay and create painful inflammation of the gums, known as Gingivitis. Poor dental hygiene can also make your pet more prone to infections that could affect other organs in the body.

Sometimes your pet rabbit or guinea pig can grow long teeth that need to be trimmed for the animal to be comfortable and able to eat properly. Although pet birds don't have teeth, this can also happen to their beaks. These problems are mainly due to diet. Our nurses can give you advice on how diet can help rectify this problem and prevent it from continuing, as well as arranging for the clipping to take place. There may be a small fee for any procedure that is required. Severe cases will be referred to the vet.

We sell the Hills Vet Essentials range to help you to care for your dog's teeth. It provides advanced biscuit technology, which means when the dog bites into the biscuit the fibres of the biscuit scrape and clean their teeth. There is also a specific diet called Hills T/D which also uses this technology but is a bigger kibble size to encourage them to chew their food. The diet also contains enzymes to reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth, therefore preventing plaque build up. The T/D diet is suitable for all pets over 1 year old. There are also dental chews that can be given to your pet to encourage them to chew and use their teeth, we recommend only specific types of dental chews
