Microchipping
SPECIAL OFFER UNTIL END FEBRAURY 2012 MICROCHIPPING NOW ONLY £20 (plus vat)
It is UK law that your pet dog has to carry some form of identification. We find that microchips are an excellent and convenient way to identify your pet and can help them to be returned safely to you if they are lost. Microchipping is a procedure that permanently identifies your pet. The implantation process is safe and painless to your pet, similar to a vaccination.
Each microchip is certified and has an individual number which can be found by scanners used by vets, pet rescue centres, police stations and dog wardens. Once microchipped, your pet's and your details are registered with the Microchip ID registry so you and your pet can quickly be matched (please inform them of any change of address!).
Please call us to make an appointment for microchipping your pet.
Pet passports
If you and your pet travel abroad, then they too will need their own passport. Travelling with your pet is now much easier with the new EU pet passport, which we can supply for you. But be prepared well in advance - this takes up to eight months to achieve.
EU travel All pets must be registered at a veterinary practice and have a pet passport in place containing details of a valid
rabies vaccination. In addition to the vaccination
treatment for ticks and tape worm will also be required, as well as an
identification microchip.
Beware! Pet owners need to be aware that animals are able to leave the UK once the passport has been issued - but they cannot return until six months from the date of their blood test. So if you are planning a holiday with your pet, allow eight months to get the pet passport in place.
Achieving a pet passport
1 Microchipping (see above). Needs to be done before or at the same time as rabies vaccination.
2 Vaccination against rabies (minimum 3 months old). Two rabies vaccinations, two weeks apart.
3 Blood tested for rabies antibody Titre levels. Carried out 21-28 days after second vaccination.
4 Pet passport is issued once results are back.
Please note
Other vaccinations may be needed to travel to countries outside the EU. Please ask us for details.
